about

This song was very confusing to me for a long time. I knew only vaguely what I was expressing and was doing my best to describe what it has been like for me living amongst the people of my world. Everywhere I have lived I have felt grateful, but also crowded by the people in my life. It has something to do never being able to completely penetrate each other's lives. No matter how much we try to keep out of the way of other people,we end up stepping on their toes, as they step on ours. Ultimately the song is about distancing myself from people, then being alone and feeling alone as a result, trying to reconcile the constant pushing and pulling which brings me close to and far from the people I love. The backing-track is a sampled rearrangement of the song "Olhou Pra Mim" which is a song found on an old Brazilian compilation of songs called "Bossa Nova Musidisc", Which I assume means bossa nova record, which is a pretty damn accurate name for the compilation. The whistling behind the rap verses was something I did and later realized that I had lifted the idea from the Slick Rick song "A Love That's True Pt. 1".
